Forging a Full Tang Hunting Knife – Course Description

This hands-on course guides participants through the complete process of crafting a full tang hunting knife from raw steel. Students will learn essential blacksmithing and forging techniques including heating, shaping, tapering, and grinding the blade. Emphasis is placed on creating a durable full tang design for strength and longevity. Additional instruction covers heat treating, tempering, and finishing the blade to optimize performance. Participants will also explore handle construction and attachment methods to finalize a balanced and functional hunting knife. By the end of the course, students will have a custom, handcrafted full tang hunting knife and the foundational skills to pursue further metalwork projects. All materials and tools are provided. No prior forging experience required.

class will start at 10 am and will end approximately between 6-8. Please bring a lunch and any snacks that you may want. Water will be available. There is a pub just down the road that has pretty good food if you would like to choose that route. Please bring and wear proper PPE and clothing. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, 100 percent cotton clothing, and leather boots or shoes.
